funny quote from someone on bbc6 - "i don't have a favorite wine for the same reason i don't have a favorite dress: cause i'm a bloke; i drink beer."
call me a nerd, but when i first read this all i could think of was schroedinger's cat
p.s. can't believe i got the spelling right first time for "schroedinger's cat" (at least per google)

i believe today is the 30th anniversary of the alternative soundtrack to the wizard of oz, better known as pink floyd's dark side of the moon. when the punk revolution came, bands like pink floyd were it's target because, frankly, much of the time, they were full of themselves. while partly true, imho, that is far too narrow of a view. dark side is a great album - it was then and it is now.
for the record, i have never tried the dark side/wizard of oz synching up trick. roger waters, of course, has said this is rubbish and i believe him. given the subject of the record, the movie and what i suspect the mental state of those trying this - it's no wonder it seems like magic...
p.s. i wonder if we can get a similar effect by synching it up with hbo prison comedy, oz. i shudder to think...

if anyone in my class is thinking about this remember that although i admire people who act in accordance to their principles, one still has to take one's midterms - and the second half of the civil disobedience equation is dealing with the consequences of one's actions...

wow - i dozed off on the couch at 8 or so for about 1/2 hour - hope it doesn''t keep me up - just doing the blog rounds and listening to bbc6 - not really playing good music - save nick cave's bring it on - a recent favourite...
this proposal sound so reasonable - so much like what I would suggest - why is this not an option...

apparently in england, mardi gras is called "pancake day". apparently you take all the luxury items (milk, flour, eggs, sugar) and use them all up prior to the asceticism of lent, by whipping up a big batch of pancakes
learn something everyday
as i am of polish descent we have pacszki (sp? - pronounced way diff then spelled) - which are a kind of a decadent donut - very tasty - kind of ethnic krispy kreme - but much more plain - similar idea to the pancakes i am sure...
kind of sad that mardi gras evolved mainly into an excuse of bad behavior - perhaps that would be ok were it followed by 40 days of repentance...

wow - i don't feel good.
i felt ok when i got up - now - yuck...
cut my first class short - might have to cancel others - fortunately for one class it's a review day and for another i can let them work on their labs...

the interesting thing to me, if this story is to be believed, is that like the wtc attacks, the plan for new attacks seem to be relatively low-tech...
last night's dream: i was in australia watching a rugby match. i run into willie nelson. we chat at great length.
i think i dreamt about willie nelson because i saw a clip of him performing with sheryl crow (boy, did i get the bum end of THAT deal). the australia rugby part is less definite - saw the crocodile hunter recently and impersonating him has become a running household joke. the rugby part - my fascination with odd sports?
