ok - my linux problem is to the point where i am getting an error installing the drivers coz they were compiled with a diff version of the gcc compiler than the kernel - so i just gotta resolve that - ugh

linux, like a particularly challenging puzzle, is both very frustrating and kinda fun...

if any of you have experience w/linux modem drivers, now would be the time to speak up...

one thing i've really taken to is indian film music. at first i like it just as a novelty - but repeated listenings show it's really great - just listened to the top 10 chart on bbc asian network...

watched charlies angels last night - what a goofy movie...

tonight - the hulk - seen it before and love it. love it. can't wait to pour over the tons of extra material - from one kind of geekin' to another...

ok - my machine at home is alive again. colleagues are working on pulling stuff from my damaged hard drive. and following the philospohy of when life give you lemon's take the darn lemons and stick them up life's butt, i decided to take my misfortune as an opportunity to install both windows and linux on my machine. still can't get my modem to work, yet still it is a wonder that i can get a robust operating system and the equivalent of m/s office, etc. for $40USD from red hat. (of course, you could get it all for free, but redhat gives you nice install programs, cd's etc...) on the other hand, my modem worked first try with win x/p pro - hmmm - life's funny that way....

anyhow, i'm deep geekin' esp. since i also have my powerbook home.

to quote george costanza, I'M BACK BAYBEE!

new links: the hazzards and the hazzards' blog

f5

1. What was your first Halloween costume?
the first i recall was a store bought pirate costume, ye scurvy dogs!

2. What was your best costume and why?
as an adult i went to a party as elvis. the costume wasn't that great, but it gets my vote cause i went to the party with my then girl-of-my-dreams!

3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn't give you a treat?
nope. but last night on curb your enthusiasm was a hilarious episode where larry david refused to give candy to two teenaged girls in regular clothes because they were too old and not in costume. later, his house was vandalized - was hilarious...

4. Do you have any Halloween traditions? (ie: Family pumpkin carving, special dinner before trick or treating, etc.)
we've taken to decorating our front yard by putting a scary costume on "my size barbie" and havinga tombstone with arms sticking out of the ground on our front yard...

5. Share your favorite scary story...real or legend!
today, i have to pay bills...

from jodi, the most deliciously twisted post of the week!

at least not depressed.

p.s. the hazzards have a blog

tom robinson has as guests on bbc6 the hazzards - formerly the ukes of hazzards, which bill themselves as "the baddest two girl ukulele band in new york."

they are awesome!

some nimrod ordered the wrong carpet for us. so now we have 1/2 a room with blue carpet, green walls and brown furniture... the other half has only padding. zounds.

to cheer my self up, i got couplings series 2 on dvd...

been groovin' to joe strummer. his new one and global a gogo which i got from iTunes. even dusted off sandinista over the weekend. both his solo work and sandinista are really growing on me.

questions from jen

What's your favorite cartoon?
bugs bunny. but sponge bob is gaining ground.

Which cartoon is just crap?
casper the friendly ghost. definitely the worst cartoon ever.

Who do you identify most from your favorite cartoon?
bugs. the way he confounds his enemies with wit, style and panache. of course, that's just my probably over optimistic perception. the real answer is probably daffy duck.

Would you rather live in Springfield or South Park and why?
springfield. south park is just too messed up. springfield seems more or less like home.

If you were to go trick-or-treating this year, what/who would you dress up as?
the hulk

wonder if i can catch this on espn2 anytime soon?

as i said, feeling a bit down, i walk into my office and hear the dulcet tones of beck on bbc6 singing "...i'm a loser baybee - so why don't you kill me..."

there is a god and she has a warped sense of humour

holy crap!?
sandra bullock and lance armstrong.
two of my favorites.

as i implied in my previous post - my computer at home crashed - and i'm not feeling so well myself. there must have been 20 times i thought over the weekend - "gee i'll hop on the internet and..." only to recall i couldn't. argh. on the bright side the movie spirited away is an absolute classic - one of the best movies i've seen recently. also the jackiew chan movie "legend of the drunken master" or something like that, rocks pretty hard too. on the video game front ssx3 lives up to the hype and midnight club 2 is not too shabby either!

but, as it were, i am still fairly misanthropic. wish i could get away from it all...
