well, i still don't feel much like doing anything, although at least now i feel like writing about it (although it doesn't seem like anyone is reading anymore - my depressed whinings apparently have driven everyone away - both of you)

anyhow, so today, i'll write about a favorite recent activity - watching vh1...

today, i saw the top 20 countdown.

jewel's new video is a masterpiece of disingenuity worthy of a politician. it is a fairly exploitive, sleazy video with jewel prancing about in skimpy outfits, gyrating about. admittedly, by today's standards it is fairly tame - yet for jewel, it is a real image change. the disingenuity in this is classic, becasue, as will all know jewel's image previously has been as a serious artiste (hey, she's a published poet) - and as such could not possibly be involved in the making of a sleazy, exploitive video - so get this - the rap is this isn't a sleazy, exploitive video - it's a parody of sleazy, exploitive videos - whew - close call - i was about to lose respect for her ;-)

at any rate, i doubt if the target demographic is too concerned with such subtleties as long as she keeps servin' up those big ole slices o' cheesecake...

i've only heard the single from the album (last time i checked, amazon didn't have samples up - perhaps i need to double check) - but am a bit disappointed. while i found her previous records a bit pretentious at times (i never bought the poet bit) i found her a very solid folkish/rockish singer - definitely up the alley of an old school mark like me - i can't help but think her newest is her shot at pulling a little britney/christina/shakira bread...

the other video i wish to mention is the new kelly clarkson. in perhaps the most startling admission since i admitted loving abba, i have to say her new song is pretty darn good. as it came on the sneer on my face started, but a few minutes into it, i have to say, it was not bad - pretty good in fact and way better than i thought it would be - perhaps she is talented, or perhaps this kind of music is really a producer's medium - but i'm not too proud to say i enjoy little pop gems like these...

oooh, if i hurry and finish this entry, perhaps i can get upstairs to see j-lo's flashdance parody video. now that's a parody i get...

rock on with your bad self.

and now a blast from the past courtesy of:
the hues corporation!

So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
said I'd like to know where, you got the notion

to rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
rock the boat, don't tip the boat over
rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
rock the boat-t-t-t-t

Ever since our voyage of love began
your touch has thrilled me like the rush of the wind
and your arms have held me safe from a rolling sea
there's always been a quiet place to harbor you and me

Our love is like a ship on the ocean
we've been sailing with a cargo full of, love and devotion

So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
said I'd like to know where, you got the notion

To rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
rock the boat, don't tip the boat over
rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
rock the boat-t-t-t-t

Up to now we sailed through every storm
and I've always had your tender lips to keep me warm
oh I need to have the strength that flows from you
don't let me drift away my dear, when love can see me through

Our love is like a ship ..........

worse than watergate?

kinda makes clinton's statements about extramarital affairs seem like the small potatoes everyone knew it was...

funny pictorial in newsweek showing the (not-so) many faces of harrison ford. the photos from his different movie posters all show the same blank, semi-scowl regardless of the films tone or genre. i like harrison ford, but now that you mention it, emoting is not really a strong point.

the project i'm working on hit a small snag. nothing earthshattering - possibly a few days rework - but i kinda suspected we might have this problem and had i gone after it more aggressively i could have nipped it in the bud. despite years of experience, i guess hope spring eternal that THIS project will be the one without a hitch - oh well, in the grand scheme of things not that big of a deal...

but to make matters worse, i've sprouted a big red pimple - thought it was sunburn at first - but now it's true identity is apparent. it is truly unfair. one should not have to deal with mid-life crisis and pimples simultaneously. zounds.

went to lunch with a group of friends and it was very nice. as great as the company was, the food was just as good. went to a small mom & pop vietnamese restaurant and had tofu with scallions and ginger. i've eaten there three times or so. i'd eat every meal there if i could. many vegetarian dishes, very tasty and clearly labeled on the menu as vegetarian! already know what i am ordering next time: black beans and tofu...

we spent father's day at the pool, which i suppose is appropriate as if i hadn't had any kids, i probably never would have learned how to swim (in one of those chaos theory "a butterfly flaps it's wings causes rain in ohio (everything causes rain in ohio)" kind of things...

well, anyhow, swimming is actually fun now that i am not terrified of it. my goal is to swim the length of the pool. i ended last year able to do about 1/2 a length - i did about 2/3 yesterday. each time out i'm becoming a bit better. it is something watching how effortless some folks glide across the water where i feel i am working HARD just to go a few feet...
