ok - the carpet guy came with the right carpet this time. as i noted last week, we were supposed to have whitish carpet and he brought blue. today when he pulled in i asked if he brought our "red" carpet. his jaw dropped til i told him i was kidding. (see i told you i was feeling cheeky) it was indeed the right stuff and the room looks fab. wish i had before and aftrer pictures. all those episodes of trading spaces have finally paid off....

on a related note, it's chilly today and we had a nice fire outside as the guys worked inside. nice, brisk day, lovely scent of the wood, cool music (faithless - sunday 8pm) reading a great book (wonderful author karen armstrong's bio of the buddha from the penguin lives series), nice baba ghanouj and feta cheese wrap with a fresh cup of coffee - everything i need to chill - AND THE INCESSANT HUM OF A LEAF BLOWER FROM A LAWN OBSESSED NEIGHBOR THAT DRONED FOR HOURS (yes, i know i am shouting). the older i get i yearn for quiet (having kids does that to you) i think i'm missing that gene that causes men to obsess over their lawn. unless your lawn is the 9th hole at augusta there is NO reason to spend so much time on your lawn. go to a bar, read a book, play video games, write your congressman, have an affair, i REALLY don't care, but do it quietly!!!!!!!

1. What food do you like that most people hate?
tofu

2. What food do you hate that most people love?
onions

3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?
pam anderson

4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?
hmmm, that's a good one.

the one that leaps to mind is the one actress on hbo's carnivale - with the short hair. i generally find people who have their own look and personality more attractive than those who are more conventionally beautiful - so i'm sure when i am fully awake i'll be able to think of more.

let me think about it and i'll edit my answer if i come up with more examples.

5. What popular trend baffles you?
hmmm - not sure if it qualifies for a trend - but the acclaim for eminem - esp. the critical acclaim

haiku about a favorite food.

o, baba ghanouj.
very delicious to eat.
even fun to say.

i was thinking today after a particularly good teaching day that what was i doing wasting my time all these years in the business world? why couldn't i have found out earlier that education was a better calling?

then i realized, without the background in business i wouldn't be who i am. i prob would not appreciate what a great job teaching is and would prob not be as effective of a teacher (to the degree i am effective). as anyone who has ever wrote a computer program or read about chaos theory (or seen a bad sci-fi movie) knows changing one small thing in a complex system (such as life) often has wide reaching and unexpected consequences...

i got an unsolicited email offering to protect me from spam. how weird is that? meta-spam?!

can't wait til the work day is over. long week and this looks like a good weekend to chill (literally and figuratively) and perhaps even get some fun, meaningful work done. then i thought about how ill-advised "wishing your life away" is. the point of zen - be in the moment...

then i'm reminded of the great song (and later ketsup commercial) from the lovely and talented carly simon, whose 70's album covers thrilled adolescent boys to no end....

We can never know about the days to come
But we think about them anyway, yay
And I wonder if I'm really with you now
Or just chasin' after some finer day

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you
And how right your arms feel around me
But I, I rehearsed those lines just late last night
When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

And tomorrow we might not be together
I'm no prophet and I don't know nature's ways
So I'll try and see into your eyes right now
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days

(These are the good old days)
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are…..the good old days)

ok - i realize that i live in the hinterlands and while i am not really sophisticated, neither am i totally naive. but the one term i'm clueless about is "metrosexual". can someone explain the term to me? what does it mean? where did it come from? i never heard of it until about a week or so - now i have seen it in print a half dozen times since.

i was able to reverse engineer the flash source files (.fla) that i lost when my system crashed. that's really a load off my mind. only one problem remains - all my buttons are invisible! - so i deleted them all and replaced them with text links - weird - frustrating - let it go, mike!

bbc6 is playing a ridiculous song where the singer keeps repeating "two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please" over and over - with assorted other comments. it's too funny. i must be working to hard.
